Canton Chen Ancestral Shrine (in simplified Chinese 广州陈家祠) is also called
Chen Clan Academy. It was built about twenty years of Qin Guangsui Dynasty (1890-1894 years), designed by Li Kui Lin. The whole building sat north to south, covering 150,000 square meters, 6400 square meters for the main building. There were three-five nine six homes the size of the composition of building. The shrine has decorative arts of the south-pointing carriage that it meta Lingnan Art Deco building of civil Dacheng, with its “three birds, three plastic, cast iron 1″ with so-called “hundred Guangdong Temple crown.”
The Chen Clan Academy, sitting south, there is a broad plaza in front, with front and rear, east and west four homes, covering an area of 13,200 square meters. The main building is wide and 80 meters deep, with a flat square. There was a use of lift beam building structure, hard hill gable-style bank up a fire. Overall the use of “three into nine three-way hatchback end” laid to six eight hospital corridors interspersed with each other. With strict symmetrical layout, the space, primary and secondary of the shrine was very clear.
At building up the handle to the central axis the main line, on both sides to a low bias, the Gallery Hop Wai veranda, bring out the main hall of the magnificent spirit, and form regular vertical and horizontal structure which would highlight the main Board. External building has brick walls, forming a closed to open outside of the building group, and is a typical folk-style Ancestral Hall building.
The Chen Clan Academy, with its exquisite decoration process known to the world, in its architecture is widely used in wood carving, stone carving, brick, ceramics, plaster, murals, such as iron and copper technology to do different styles of decoration. Both concise and extensive carving techniques, and uncompromising attention to detail, reflect the mutual care, so elegant in the College at a solemn magnificence disclosed. Chen College has wood carving and it is rich in content. Head first into the door frame carved beams have “the Queen Mother’s birthday”, “Practice with disabilities will UNITA”, “public dispute YUCHI helm” and other stories based on history and folklore of carved wood.
